Cabo da Roca (Cape Roca), west of Sintra Municipality, is the Westernmost Point of Europe / Portugal. Located near Azóia, which you will pass on the main road is by default windy.
Cape Roca has an iconic beautiful lighthouse that has been working since 1772. For the Romans was known as Promontorium Magnum and during the Age of Discoveries was recognized by sailors as the Rock of Lisbon. Why this name? Because it is a massive cliff above sea level 165 meters, where the lighthouse is located.
From Cabo da Roca, you will be able to take directions to Sintra or Cascais, depending on your preference and the path to follow. Going in the direction of Cascais, we suggest you make the road along the Atlantic coast with fantastic views.
Take your time and enjoy. You will be able to stop at Guincho Beach (or other previous beaches) and enjoy a little bit of the sun (mainly in Spring and Summer). Guincho Beach is windy and perhaps the main reason for several national windsurf competitions besides the Europeans. After Guincho, you will carry on the road to Cascais.
Most of the private tour operators will make this road, with stops in Boca do Inferno and Cascais city center, and Estoril will be optional. After Estoril, return to the Lisbon hotel if you have chosen this location as accommodation.
